WHO IS THIS FOR?
- Older adults who have had a fall or near-fall
- Seniors feeling unsteady on their feet or fearful of falling
- People with chronic conditions affecting balance (Parkinson's, MS, arthritis)
- Those taking multiple medications (polypharmacy)
- Anyone using a walking aid or wanting to reduce their risk of falling
- Family members seeking a safe, supervised program for a loved one
Why Does Falls Risk Increase With Age?
Falls rarely happen from just one cause. Most occur because of a combination of physical, medical, and environmental changes — many of which can be directly addressed through the right exercise program.
Common Causes of Falls in Older Adults
- Reduced balance, coordination and postural control
- Slower reaction time
- Muscle weakness, particularly in the legs and hips
- Vision changes
- Reduced sensation in the feet or hands
- Difficulty with everyday tasks like rising from a chair or walking on uneven ground
- Medical conditions such as Parkinson's disease or multiple sclerosis
- Multiple medications (polypharmacy)
One of the most significant and modifiable contributors is the loss of strength and physical function associated with ageing and inactivity. This is precisely where targeted exercise can make a life-changing difference.
How Does Exercise Prevent Falls?
Extensive research shows that regular, targeted exercise can reduce the risk of falls by up to 23% in older adults. This is why falls prevention exercise classes — like Balance Boost — are recommended by health professionals across Australia.
Exercise Improves:
- Lower limb and hip strength
- Balance and postural control
- Walking speed, gait quality and confidence
- Coordination and reaction time
- Mood and independence
In Balance Boost, exercises are specifically designed to safely challenge your balance in a controlled, supportive environment — driving real, lasting improvements.
What Makes Balance Boost Effective?
The most successful falls prevention programs combine balance and strength training, performed regularly and progressed over time. Balance Boost follows evidence-based guidelines from Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA).

Balance Exercises Include:
- Controlled standing tasks
- Single-leg balance work
